All-new Blink XT2 Outdoor/Indoor Security Camera Kit Review


Amazon has announced the Blink XT2, the next-generation of Blink’s XT camera that was released in late 2016. The all-new Blink XT2 is built with a new chip, offers new and improved features such as two-way audio, customizable and enhanced motion detection over the original, live view recording and can record a total of 80,000 seconds of video on a single set of 1.5v AA lithium batteries (compared to 40,000 mere seconds of the XT), allowing customers to use it twice as much and still enjoy the same 2-year battery life. Best of all, it costs less.

If you already have a Blink XT system the new XT2 will work with your existing Blink System as it uses the same hardware as previous Sync Modules. You can have up to 10 Blink devices per sync module as long as they are all within the 100ft operating range of the sync module in any direction. If you have an existing Blink system, simply use the add device function in the Blink App to add XT2.  If you are new to Blink, you need to pre-order one of the system configurations.

The Blink XT2 look exactly the same size as XT except a gray ring around the lens and a thin gray frame/line on the face of the camera body and is labeled XT2 on the back. The new XT2 uses a newly designed mount that allows the camera to reach customizable angles more easily. So, you can’t utilize the same mounting bracket as the initial Blink XT. For accessories, the XT2 has their own specific accessories which will be announced at a future date.

The Blink XT2 is now available from 1 to 5 camera kit, each of which includes free cloud storage with no monthly fee tied to it. If you’re planning on installing multiple Blink XT2 cameras around your house or property, you have to buy a camera kit that includes an XT2 camera and a Sync Module, which is necessary for pairing the wireless Blink cameras together. If you curently have a Blink XT system just purchase an additional camera to further customize the system for your home.

The XT2 has similar features as the XT, the XT2 is weather-resistant (IP65 rated), and it can record 1080p footage. Amazon and Blink have incorporated two-way talk into the XT2, and it also works with Alexa voice commands. Beyond simple queries, you can see a live feed from your cameras on your Amazon Echo Spot, Echo Show, or Fire TV device by saying “Alexa, show the  <camera name>  camera”. The XT2 video camera also features customizable movement detection and double the battery usage of the XT about the same group of batteries when recording video.
